The birth of a newborn baby is one of the best blessings in the world. Mother’s and father’s whole lives change after receiving this precious gift from Allah. The initial cry brings life to the woman’s soul, whose body has made a huge sacrifice by bearing pain that is so strong that it feels like a broken bone, and it comes in waves. Be Thankful To Allah For The Blessing: 

Thanking Allah is considered the top priority of a Muslim family in Islam. It is done because Allah has granted them the most precious gift one can ever get from Allah. Children are considered Amanah by Allah. Parents are responsible for treating them right and equally, as well as raising them and guiding them to be decent human beings and Muslim,s but with patience, love, and kindness at their heart. 

Allah says,

“ To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and earth. He creates what He wills. He grants female children to whom He wills, and grants male children to whom He wills.”

Surah Ash-Shura (42:49-50)

Adhan In The Right Ear And Iqamah: 

Soon after birth, it is Sunnah to recite Adhan in the newborn’s right ear. The child gets to listen to Tawheed from day one on earth. Hazrat Muhammad PBUH called Adhan in the right ear of his grandson Hasan ibn Ali after his birth. Iqamah is done in the left ear right after birth. The Sunnah of Adhan is performed by the father or any other adult who is pious. 

Performing Tahneek: 

Tahneek is also a Sunnah. It is performed right after birth. It is done by softening a date. Then a small amount is rubbed onto the baby’s palate. The Prophet PBUH performed Tahneek many times. Supplication is also performed. It is done by a pious elder or a respected and religious figure.

Name The Child With an Islamic Name: 

Choosing a meaningful and Islamic name is an important part of childbirth. It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that Hazrat Muhammad PBUH said: 

“ The most beloved names to Allah are Abdullah and Abdul Rahman.” 

It is important to choose good names with beautiful meanings. If a name contains shirk, it is not acceptable. Any name with an inappropriate meaning is not appreciated. Good names with noble qualities are loved and cherished. 

Shave The Baby’s Head And Offer The Aqiqah: 

On the seventh day after birth, shaving the baby’s head is recommended. After weighing the baby’s hair, parents are supposed to give charity equal to it. This was a way of showing gratitude to Allah. 

Aqiqah is also a highly recommended Sunnah. It is traditionally performed on the seventh day of birth. 

• One animal is sacrificed for girls 
• Two animals are sacrificed for boys 

After that, the meat is distributed among family, neighbors, and the needy. 

Circumcision For Boys And Making Dua For Children: 

In Islam, circumcision is a part of Fitrah. It is done for Muslim boys. It is usually done in infancy, but there is no fixed day. In infancy, it is just for ease of the child. It is done after a careful checkup by a qualified medical professional.
